This large courtyard functions as something of a park for reflection and socialization. It is technically part of Ichibantai's grounds, but members from all divisions may be found here from time to time.
Each of the divisions has it's own barracks which contain areas where those of the division work, as well as Captain's offices and training grounds. There are also living spaces present for those who cannot afford rent in the residential districts, or for those who need time away from their family home for one reason or another.
Several districts within the Serietiei are set aside for homes of various sizes and styles available for rent or purchase. Aside from these districts there are also the manors of the various Shinigami noble lines.
Rukongai takes up the vast majority of the Soul Society. It is separated into four sections (one for each of the cardinal directions) and each direction has 80 districts. The higher the number, the further from the center where the Seireitei sits, and thus the more crime and general poverty that can be found.
The Seireitei stands at the center of Soul Society and it is the place that the vast majority of Shinigami live and work from. Contained within its walls are the Goteijusantai and the academy which teaches those who would become Shinigami how to fight, among other things.
Sokyoku Hill stands towering above the Seireitei. At it's peak there is a small stand of trees, and then a blank space right at the edge of the cliff where executions once took place. Now it mostly exists as a reminder of the mistakes the Gotei made.
