We've successfully completed both our software move and our going non-canon!
With the change from AU to fully non-canon, we decided to take that opportunity to move our site onto a new software. This software is called Gaia, and was coded from scratch by our main administrator, Arceus.
As the software is new, there aren't any guides or anything for it, but it should be fairly straight-forward and simple to understand for members that are unfamiliar with it (probably all of you). It was built from the ground up to be designed to natively support anything a role-playing game may want it to do, as well as run quickly, efficiently, and be easy to set up, maintain, and use, both for members and for administrators.
This software is at version Alpha 9. This means that it is incomplete, and there may be missing things, broken links, buttons that don't do anything, options that have no effect, and may occasionally be a bit wonky. After the last day checking it all out and getting Plain of Ice's Gaia incarnation set up and ready to go, we should have caught all the schnags, but, if you run into anything weird or that doesn't look right, or you get an error message, please post in the designated thread for such things in the Player Corner and give Arceus a heads up.
We will continue running on Gaia well into its official, final version 1 release, we have no interest in backtracking. However, we may not get updates to the software until long after that update is available, to ensure that nothing breaks and renders Plain of Ice entirely unusable at any point, as this is a live site and we don't want to make it go down for a long time. We do hope everyone enjoys the Gaia suite, and it will be available both as a Jcink-like hosted service, and as a downloadable and installable package that you can host yourself, if anyone else is interested (see the Gaia coterie on RPG Initiative for more information about using it for your own site).
Thanks so much for sticking with us, and here's to the future!
